Doug worked for the IBEW for 24 years building and leading electricians on some of the biggest semiconductor plants in Virginia. Wendy worked in the advertising Industry, new business department with The Martin Agency for 11 years. Soon realizing that they would only go so far, their adventurous spirits led them into opening a small woman owned business….they are SWAM certified and proud of it. At the time, they had 3 young daughters and agreed that keeping their business at home would afford them the opportunity to not only work as needed but most importantly be at home for their girls. Opening a home base electrical contracting company would be the best decision of their lives. 

 

ESU was designed and created in February of 2006 by Doug & Wendy Longest…a husband and wife team, best friends, and now business partners. ESU picked up many small residential jobs before being awarded a nice opportunity to work with Dominion Virginia Power on their Home Standby Generator business. The company started to grow! They had a new database of over 500 residential customers. They hired two great electricians (Pool and Max) that are still with the company today! (16 years of service so far!) Today they have a power packed team of technicians and electrical apprentices. ESU believes in education and sends their new employees to trade school to further their careers in the field. ESU knows the future lies in these great young men and women!

 

It wasn’t too long after getting started that ESU took another opportunity to do work with Verizon Wireless and a large job working with another electrical contractor on the fiber optic cable installation in the Hampton Roads Tunnels. The job was perfect to prove Doug’s abilities to succeed in the commercial/industrial fields. Today, ESU has many commercial jobs on the books. From restaurants, medical/dental offices, food chains, clothing stores, gas stations & more! Their client list is large, impressive and still growing. They work with only the best General Contractors in the business as they appreciate other trades that do great work as well.

 

It hasn’t always been easy during low economic and pandemic times…but ESU is a resilient small business and continues to be strong and growing…after all, its not just business…it’s personal to them.
